NIRD Fest 2022
Acting Role: The Narrator (Concord Floral herself!)
I’m often met by opportunities to step outside of my comfort zone. Some I take, some I don’t. I think I will forever be glad I took this one. As someone who normally dwells backstage for productions, I was encouraged by my drama teacher to audition for the role of the narrator, who takes the form of the one-million-square-foot greenhouse the story revolves around. At first the idea was nerve wracking. I had successfully completed a Speechcraft program with Toastmasters when I was in the Teen Entrepreneur Network, and considered myself a pretty good public speaker. But acting? How could I be an actor? It wasn’t something I had ever considered. I decided to go for it because a) I liked the part, and b) because I wanted to know what it was like to be on stage. It was the best decision I could have made. Not only did I learn so much, I got to see just how far I’ve come. In grade six I was too timid to speak to my own teacher. Here I am six years later on stage… and loving it!!
